The Western Islands are a location in the the Lands. During the early kingdom of Gladstone's history in the time of the Gladoch dynasty, there lived Varsno, a great wizard from the southern continent and possessor of the last remaining Ancient Magic artifact, the powerful Nether Mask. The Ancient gods originally used this device to mimic mortal experiences. Varsno realized that the magic inside was too potentially dangerous for mortal use, and therefore buried the Mask twelve thousand feet deep in the mudflats surrounding the Western Islands.[1]
