Lockpicking is a game-play mechanic in Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos governed by the Rogue skill. Various chests, doors, and other keyholes can be unlocked using lockpicks to acquire items or bypass certain areas without the use of keys. While there is no limit to how many times a character can attempt to pick a lock, certain locks have a minimum requirement in order to be successfully picked. Other locks may cause damage to the party on an unsuccessful attempt, and at least two chests, one found in the White Tower (level 1) and the other found in the Dungeons beneath Castle Cimmeria, that will not open at all if the first attempt on the lock was unsuccessful.
